| Reported locally from 7400 feet, our Lake Tahoe snow alert is reported
through out the year. |
JUNE 2005:
Wednesday (June 15) was typical beautiful Tahoe weather sunny and in the low 70s. Thursday brought a cooling trend, the temperatures dropped about 20 degrees and by evening cold rain was falling. Light dusting of snow in the higher elevations (above 8000 feet).
Friday (June 17) remains cool expected highs about 50 with intermittent
sunshine, thunderstorms and more rain possible. This weather pattern
is expected to continue until Tuesday with temperatures gradually warming up. After Tuesday skies should clear and warm temperatures returning by mid-week.
Overheard at the bank, people are still skiing -- according to the local newspaper, we are not having the "corn snow" that people can easily ski on in the spring. Avalanche threat still exists in the backcountry where there is snow, so use caution when skiing in the backcountry.
Snow is now melted away at 7200 feet, snow still covers the ground at
8 - 9000 feet so higher trails are still good for cross-country but not open for hiking. Lower elevations are great for hiking and due to lots of snow and spring precipitation wildflowers should be in abundance this year. Things are greening up but it is still early for wildflowers at 7200 feet, by mid-June the wildflowers at 7200 feet should be ready for showtime!
